New Principal commissioned

Excerpt from Principal’s Induction Speech, 8 May 2017
“…Students, look at what you have.
Look at what I have.
Look at what we have…
A beautiful school with facilities that most schools dream about; in a bushland setting and with resources like few schools I have seen. But more importantly it has a professional, innovative and hard-working staff  who are dedicated to help you learn and grow.
At no other time in your life will you have so many highly-qualified people who are interested in your welfare and development.
Attending a great school like Oxford Falls Grammar is a privilege, and that privilege brings with it a responsibility for not one moment of your time here to be wasted. And for that education never to be taken for granted.
That means we want OFGS to be a place where you can excel academically, where you can pursue knowledge and develop your skills and capacities and abilities so that, empowered with self-belief and a hardy work ethic, you can set yourself audacious unthinkable goals; so that you can pursue your chosen career or tertiary study pathway, allowing you to be independent, earn an income and have a successful life.
But more than that I want it to be a place where you can become a ‘learn-ed’ person in the traditional sense;
a well-educated person with an intelligent and considered world view;
a well-rounded person who can contribute meaningfully to the world in which you live;
a cultured person who can rise confidently above many of the easy public temptations of the day: racism, sexism, self-interest, xenophobia and small-minded politics.
a peaceful and content person who enjoys a life uncluttered by inane television nonsense and free of the social media pressures and mindless junk the internet incessantly clogs our daily lives with.
Many of the students here today will live to see in the 22nd Century. I can’t even imagine what that world is going to be like. It will be very different world, an exciting world, but one with unique challenges.
But I can tell you this; one of the best ways to live a successful life IS to live a Christ-centred life. Having a relationship with the living God, and living in a way that Jesus taught us to live, will give you a solid foundation and compass with which to navigate the complexities of the 21st and 22nd centuries.
Because it is in that relationship that you can become a person whose life models the fruits of God’s spirit so that your words and actions, your very character and world view, will shine like a beacon to those around you a life lived with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
I believe that the world is a good place, filled with opportunity and wonder. So many things to do and so many places to go. And Oxford Falls is a great place to prepare you to go out confidently into that world.
The future is bright, and I am so excited about being part of this educational community….”
