Finalists at UNSW Sleek Geeks Science Competition

Congratulations to our Year 5 students who entered The University of Sydney Sleek Geeks Science Eureka Competition. They produced a short film that communicated a scientific concept in an accessible and engaging way. The film was entitled ‘Portrait of A Serial Killer’ which was about mosquitoes and how the viruses they carry kill people.

Out of 400 entries nationwide, they were two of the finalists for primary-aged children. They achieved the runner’s-up prize and this was awarded to them at a prestigious black tie dinner at the Sydney Town Hall. They also spent time on Wednesday meeting the other contestants from Primary and Senior School and speaking to Adam Spencer and Dr Karl Kruszelnicki.

On Thursday they went to the Australian Museum to have a ‘look behind the scenes’. They received a cash prize, a book written by Adam Spencer and a Sleek Geeks jumper.
